Japan opening of ‘Barbie’ marred by controversy ahead of nuclear memorials

  1. This is always the problem when something horrible is “real” or not, as determined by time, locality, culture, etc. Applies to pretty much everything.

  2. Promoting cancellation culture on the Internet is powerless in front of the real world.
    A recent example is The Little Mermaid, which was bashed online by a malicious anonymous account. But when it opened to the public, it held the No. 1 spot in Japan’s weekly attendance rankings for almost a month.

    In Japan, Disney is stronger than Barbie, but even so, there is virtually no chance that online bashing like this will have any impact.

    A Japanese dubbing actor was forced to comment on the latest debacle, expressing his confusion over the bashing and how great the Barbie movie is.
    It brought out sympathy for the actors and the stupidity of the anonymous accounts bashing them.

    It really is all a bunch of crap.
    Barbie fans in Japan are not stupid enough to be swayed by such a silly incident.
