Mysterious color-changing spot on trousers drying outdoors – insect related?

A few days ago I hung laundry outside to dry, and the next day I noticed a black spot about the size of a Â¥10 coin on my trousers drying outside. I thought it was dirt and ignored it, but a few days later coming back from a trip, I saw that the spot had turned white. The side of which had the spot had been in the shade all the time. I went out to take down my clothes and started removing the thing from my trousers – it kinda went into the fabric and I had to scrape it away.

Imagine pushing several short threads orthogonally into a fabric until you have that sort of a spot/formation. To remove it you would kind of have to scrape it out – that was how it was.

Any Idea what that could have been? Feels like maybe some insect or something did that.

I have never seen something like that before, just wished I took a photo but at the time it did not seem like something I would think twice about, but it has been gnawing on me all day. I really want to know what that might have been.
