My contract is set to expire at the beginning of next year. And currently I do not have any renewal offers or other job offers for 2024, is it still possible to extend the visa a few months and then search? And if granted the extension, am I required to pay insurance and pension monthly out of my savings?

If you’rea resident, you have to pay contributions. When company doesn’t, those are on you.
I’m not clear about your visa type, for normal cases you get 3mo to find a new job, and then can extend… But if your visa happens to expire at the wrong moment, it can get tricky. Please plan ahead
