  1. I’m an American ELA teacher, but this year I’ve been asked to pick up a small section of Japanese II (high school, mixed grades). I’m licensed to teach it and comfortable with the language, but I’ve been teaching English so long, I’m not sure how to approach this one.

Does anyone have any language teaching resources they are familiar with? What are some activities you’ve done in classes that you found fun and useful? Any routines you find useful in a world language classroom?

    We’re using the Genki text.

  2. Small question, how does one learn to read Japanese names? For example I could look at 実朝 and not know its pronounced さねとも unless I had prior exposure to it.

So the main point I`m getting at is, does knowing how to read them come from one’s intuition of the language, or is it always on a basis of first learning how to read them and now you know type of deal?

  3. Hi!

I’m planning to study at Keio next year and was wondering if anyone had an equivalent to JLPT to the Keio levels (K1, K2, K3…), especially to having passed either N5 or N4.

    Thank you!

  4. this sounds like begging but i don’t know where else to ask.
i need help with translations for this following:
    1. はなこめるような こえで アニアニアーと うたげる。
    みみみを からぬけきると アニアッと うどけだす。
    2. がにさばくような こえで オトウトオーと うたげる。
    なななを はよけきると オトトッと うどけだす。

I can’t seem to find some of the words, like “がにさばく” on dictionary (or maybe i searched it wrong since it’s all hiragana) so i’m confused.

  5. What’s the difference between てある and てしまあう? Similarly, how does a completed action differ from a past tense action? I know you can have something be worked on in the past that wasn’t completed, but if someone told me they took a nap, that action would have been completed.

  6. Hello! Today, I downloaded the 10ten reader addon with the intention of reading some light novels. However, as my novels are in .epub format, I had to utilize a different addon specifically designed for reading epubs in .html format. The issue I encountered is that when I hover over words, no information is being displayed. Is there anyone who could provide guidance on how to fix this?

  7. How do you say “I didn’t mean to…”, especially in the context of “I didn’t mean to say X, (I meant to say Y instead)”. Is it dictionary verb + つもりじゃない?
