Hello everyone! I’m excited to be returning to Japan and moving to Tokyo in a few months. Currently, I’m in the process of searching for an apartment, specifically in Shibuya, as that will be my primary base of operations.
I’m looking for a place that’s within a decent distance from Shibuya, and I prefer to have the option of getting around by bicycle. Access to public transport, especially trains, is pretty important for me However, I’d also love to live in an area with some green spaces and nature nearby, along with a semi-vibrant neighborhood with konbinis and pubs I can frequent to practice my language within reach.
After looking around for a bit, I find Kichijoji and Koenji particularly appealing, although they might be a bit far from Shibuya. I’ve also heard good things about western Shibuya itself. Can you suggest any other alternatives that meet my criteria? My budget for rent is flexible, so I’m not solely focused on finding the cheapest place. Bonus points if I can get home at 2 am without calling a taxi, so within like 4 kilometres of shibuya.
Any advice or recommendations you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help.

Check out Shimo Kitazawa or anywhere along the Toyoko Line between Shibuya and Musashi Kosugi.
Setagaya
Anywhere along Toyoko or Den En Toshi line, however some areas of Kawasaki can be gloomy. But you’ll get your kombinis anywhere. Inokashira line bringing you to Setagaya works too.
If you use bicycle, western part of Shibuya all the way to Sasazuka is great.
