Piercing/tattoo/died hair student exchange program

Hello!

I’m a caucasian woman going to an university in Japan as an exchange student next semester! I have a lot of piercings (2 on my lips, septum and nose, and a lot on cartilage on both ears), I have green dye hair and tattoo that can be easily covered. I looked up but didnt really found any clear answer. Are piercing, tattoo and dye hair allowed to be shown at university? And will that makes people not want to be friend with me, or are they fine with international students?

I’m very excited, but want to be prepared!!

Thank you so much!

  2. Probably depends on the university. I had a few piercings when I studied abroad in Japan, as well as dyed hair, and I actually got my first tattoo while I was over there. And none of the students or teachers seemed to have a problem with it. Actually I got compliments on my hair and a lot of questions about the tattoo. To me it seemed like younger people were much more accepting of those things in general, and just found them interesting.
