Is there a way to get Line without a keitai number?

I have an iPad rather than a mobile phone which I love but I’m starting to miss out on quite a lot socially as I can’t get access to Line. If you Google there are a bajillion hits on how to get it but I’m starting to get the impression that none of them actually work.

  1. As in you don’t have any mobile sim? I’m guessing getting Line is the least of your concern if you don’t have a sim.

I remember having this problem when I was still applying for a mobile sim. I don’t think there is any solution if you’re already here in Japan. If you are in another country, you could make an account there using the mobile number there and then bring it here. I vaguely remember one of my friend doing that. I’m not sure if you can get the Japan version of Line that way though.

  2. You just need a mobile phone to install it but you don’t have to associate a number. Usually the iPad version will ask you to verify with the cellphone version of the app.

  3. And for the sake of all that is holy REGISTER AN EMAIL ADDRESS. Now you can use line on ANY device simply by logging in with email and worst case scenario recovering the login via email.

The LINE faq basically says “didn’t register an email before doing Regrettable Thing? You screwed sorry”

  4. I use an iPad Air as a phone, but have a phone with a cheap 800y sim just for these things and receiving calls.

  5. Taken from Google search snippet… Cannot vouch

Tap Accounts and then tap Email Account Registration. Enter your email address and tap OK. Open the verification email and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration. This way, you can easily create LINE account without phone number….

    Hope this works for you.

    Side note ..
I absolutely hate line… I resent that I have to use it.. I resent that I have to organize everything social and work through the app.. it’s such a bloated app that often doesn’t work well with other apps and services. Not a fan of meta either but Whatsapp and Facebook messenger are so much better.

  6. Is there anyway you can just buy a really cheap mobile phone? If it’s for calling purposes you can just buy one of those foldable garakei ones instead of a smartphone. Or do you have a landline just not a mobile phone number?

Either case, I’ve tried getting a LINE account without a phone number before. Honestly none of the methods I’ve looked up at the time worked so I just gave up and bought a cheap sim with a mobile number plan.

  7. It’s not just Line. You’re going to have trouble with anything that requires a text message for verification.

Is it that you don’t want to get a phone, that the cost is an issue, or that you don’t have residency to be able to get a phone SIM through normal means?

If you have residency and cost is an issue, there are options for *very* cheap phones with cheap plans. All you need is the ability to receive calls and text messages, so anything will do. Walk into a few places and ask what the absolute cheapest phone and plan they can give you is.

If you don’t have residency, then aside from asking friend or family to get a line for you, your only option is [Mobal]([https://www.mobal.com/](https://www.mobal.com/international-cell-phones/)), which has very reasonable rates. You’ll need to find your own phone, but any phone that supports LTE and is unlocked, or at least is locked to Softbank, would do.

  8. Apparently they added that requirement due to underage girls selling photos of themselves to old sweaty salarymen in the past.

So it’s now a required security measure.
