Hello, I’m currently in the beginning steps of trying to move to Japan after giving it a lot of thought for about 2 years. The company I currently work for remotely is a worldwide company and they have a headquarters in Tokyo. I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and know if I would be able to get the company to sign on my visa for me to be qualified for a working visa and will I need to have them approve all of that before I even apply for a visa? Also I’d appreciate any other tips or advice for moving because I’ve been doing extensive research and no one seems to give clear step by step advice on the process. Thanks <3

Or if anyone knows of any easy acceptance visas I could apply for that give me a long term stay?
You would have to ask your company if they would sponsor your work visa for Japan. There is no clear step to step process as it would be dependent on your employer’s process and the employer would be doing the paperwork for you and applying.
>would be able to get the company to sign on my visa
You have to discuss this with your management and potentially your HR. It’s not something us randoms on the internet can comment on.
>will I need to have them approve all of that before I even apply for a visa?
If you’re asking your employer to transfer you to an office in Japan and sponsor you for a visa, then you will absolutely need them to approve it, and then you’d need them to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility in order to begin the process with immigration.
Even if your work is 100% remote, your company may have many reasons for not allowing you to move countries. In the early days of covid I had an Australian coworker working in our Manhattan office. He figured Manhattan rent was stupid so he ditched his apartment and moved back to Oz. Got a small place on the beach for like a third of what he was paying in NY. He was there for around a month, still working NY hours, when HR found out and gave him the ultimatum: move back to the US or quit.
From an immigration standpoint, if you have the Bachelor’s degree and the Japan branch is willing to fill out paperwork for you, then you be allowed to work in Japan no problem.
However, the exact process for your company to transfer you to Japan will depend entirely on them. Each company will have their own policies and rules for sending people overseas on assignment. You will have to ask whoever is in charge of this stuff within your company.
