Hey everyone, I came across the word イエバエ (iebae) for “housefly” and was wondering where the word comes from since it’s in katakana.
I’ve checked this subreddit and /r/japaneseresources for good places to find the etymology of words but I haven’t been lucky.
I’m not quite skilled enough to be able to read the dictionary definition, but I could probably translate it, however it would be nice if somebody knows of a good resource to find word etymologies in Japanese.
Thanks in advance!

イエバエ = 家蠅
家 = House
蠅 = Fly
Something worth mentioning is that in Japanese, animals are often written in katakana even though they have often have kanji associated with them.
Ex: wolf is 狼, but is often written as オオカミ
