Semi-stupid question, does not deserve its own thread.
I got into an accident during work while picking heavy stuff.
While moving/picking cans of oil from our warehouse
a glass shard of around 3cm just flied across my face, hitting my glasses. Usually, glass is disposed in another place, and being in this part of the warehouse is an hazard. I still cannot understand how this shard flied from the ground to my face, it may have been just placed on one of the cans.
I was really lucky because the glasses stopped the impact of the shard from injuring me.
I don’t have any scratch or anything, but my glasses can’t be used anymore.
While arguing with both my boss and HR guy that it was a safety hazard and that without my prescription glasses I can’t work, they reluctantly said that they would try to contact the hoken to get some money for the repairs (went to the manufacturer the next day and got an estimate of 40000 yen).
As soon they saw my estimate they told me that I was being greedy and that I was trying to get a new pair of glasses for free. They also told me yesterday that the hoken refused to give any money because ‘it’s my fault that I got my glasses broken and that objects are not covered by insurance”.
They also tried to cover their ass by saying “we don’t know who put that glass shard there”.
I already told them that it’s not normal that this kind of things happens and that if I was without glasses I could have lost an eye; basically saying that they’re not providing a safe place to work.
It’s a paltry amount of money, I could buy another ten pairs of the same glasses, but it became a matter of principle at this point. Anything that I could do to give them a lesson?

Also, before saying that they are a black company; I do know that and I am looking for something better at the moment.

There’s this typhoon coming to Kyushu and it’s the first time I’m this scared as it’s gonna go directly over my city. So I have a few questions…
– What if on the day of the typhoon my electricity gets cut off while I’m working from home. Do I have to use my paid leave or is there any rule regarding working days and disasters. (I’m gonna ask the office on Monday, but feel free to share your opinion)
– What should I do to prepare, apart from stocking up on food and water?
I got caught up in the heavy rain last wednesday and my sneakers got soaked and developed this weird humidity smell thing or whatever and they stink within minutes of wearing them. Any solution in japan? We use Boric Acid for that in my country. I have not found it here, and Dr.Scholl’s spray did nothing to it

Today’s the first time that I ever called the cops on someone in Japan and I’m just wondering if it was the correct move.
I’m female and I regularly go out on quick night strolls near my place because of doctor’s orders. I live less than 10 minutes from the station in a fairly populated but somewhat residential part of Tokyo, so there’s plenty of light and enough people about that I’ve never had issues even at 1 am in the night.
But today this old man driving a car called out to me twice in a span of 15 minutes only to ask me if I had time. For what, I don’t know, but I said no both times and then ran back home and called the cops.
First tried my local police box and they said they couldn’t do anything and I shouldn’t go out at night, but since the place where it all happened was so close to home and it’s stupid to ask anyone to not go out at night, I called 110 and they sent a patrol over…
