Men of Reddit, how do you keep your junk cool in this weather?

I’m at my wits’ end, by the time I get to the office in the morning, I’m so uncomfortable I run to the wc and just let it air out…

Is there a secret to keeping personal hygiene when it’s so hot?

  1. Shave your balls.

    Merino underwear.

Women’s underwear lining (intended for periods but effectively captures moisture for balls), baby powder (can be messy figuring out the technique), or an antiperspirant rub (like Fresh Balls) for the genital region.

Full blast a fan at your junk in your office if you can upon arrival.

  2. I use synthetic hiking underpants. They cost a bit (~8000 yen a piece) but have never let me down. Noting, I do a lot of distance running so have put them to test.

  3. Buy a bottle of cool lotion (anything with high menthol content). Slather it on your dick, balls and in between your thighs. If it tickles your fancy, you can also rub some along the perineum. Reapply throughout the day as necessary.

Don’t overdo it though, or it’ll burn like a ________.

  4. Talking about it my toddler bite my ball , it hurts so much that I don’t remember about the weather anymore

  5. Air rhythm boxers. Aside from that just choosing the shade when walking. Admittedly I’ve never been desperate enough to need emergency ventilation

  6. Just avoid boxers or you may run into a situation where your ass is more boxer than ass

  7. Baby powder. Helps keep them boys dry. Also I have wicking underwater but honestly that only partly helps. I generally charge 3 times a day. But baby powder really helps me.

  8. As others have mentioned, UniQlo’s airism line of underwear seems to help a bit. I found that cotton underwear just got soaked with sweat and then stayed wet all day, which leads to other issues. The airism stuff doesn’t seem to build up the moisture as much.

Also, as someone else mentioned, a dab of baby powder. Might not stop the sweating, but I found when working 10 hour days outside in the middle of summer last year that it did help prevent the itch that sometimes starts up on those extremely hot and humid days. And if you do have problems with that, an anti-bacterial/fungal cream after showering (I don’t know what it’s called in Japanese, but it’s basically the same stuff used to combat athletes foot) and following up with the baby powder will help.

  9. Wear a skirt, they’re very comfy and provide more ventilation.

On a more serious sidenote, it seems Tokyo has been way hotter than Nagoya (where I live). I’m already near my limit here (at least when I go outside) so I can’t imagine how bad it is there

  10. I come from South Africa and worked in Thailand before this so I guess my balls are used to it?

  11. I spend roughly half my time in Singapore and half in Japan so am used to hot weather all year round. Shaving is very important. You also need to train your mind to mentally “chill” as worrying about the heat will simply make you perspire even more.

  12. I bought tons of baby powder to stop sweat, it doesn’t work.

Word of advice, completely forget any “cooling” shower gel or wipes unless you enjoy menthol burn nuts everything around them

  13. If anyone’s lucky enough to bicycle to work, using a spray bottle every five minutes does wonders. Spray your whole body, including your junk, but focus on the face, neck, and ears – it really cuts down on the sweat.

I honestly sweat more during the 2 minute walk to the office entrance than during the 25 minutes on the bike.

  14. Trim hair and loose fitting cotton (not tight, not polyester).

Personally i had linen ones made

  15. An American colleague told me about Gold Bond powder. Absolute gamechanger for me. I use the medicated kind. No light dusting, a whole handful to the groin in all the cracks and crevices and under the arms and small of the back after showering and patting dry. Keeps me dry all day and I’m a fat, hairy bastard. I do shower twice a day though. Proper scrub in the morning and a quick all over cold rinse before bed. That probably helps.

  16. Go commando. Bring underwear separately and put it on in a bathroom when you arrive at your destination

  17. I swear by the brand Separatec (boxer briefs that keep all your parts separated). Not too expensive, good materials and great fit in my opinion. Can find them on Amazon JP.

  18. What problem, exactly, are you encountering? I’ve been here (the valley of Kansai) for decades, and had to wear suits and casual, and have been uncomfortable in about every part of my body, but frankly I don’t feel that area has ever crested my conscious in this regard….
