Custom Ordered Tuxedo/Suit

Has anyone ordered a complete custom tuxedo/suit in Tokyo? Can someone recommend a service? The places I have been only have this “semi-custom” style, which means you select stuff from a rather limited catalogue and they fix existing pieces to your size. I haven’t found a complete custom order yet. Like a real taylor.

The staff in one shop said its very rare in Japan, pretty expensive (over 70万), and takes over 6 months… I figured that the staff is not a trustworthy source…

  1. Yuzawaya does it. You select the fabric, they measure you, and you’ll get it in 3-4 weeks.

  2. A fully bespoke suit will run you a lot, 300-600k is a typical range. There’s a few shops in ginza that offer that – just stick tailor into Google and you’ll see several. The quality is normally very good but it does take months to arrive. They’ll do 2-3 fittings and adjustments for you as standard

  3. Pricing can go from 300k to 1million. I mean it can be more depending on the shop and material you can choose.

But it taking a long time is true because of a few things, most of these shops operate using very, very old senior staff.

Young staff are treated like shit and paid peanuts. So you can expect that the turn over is high.

Old staff are good but work very slow.

They tend to take many orders at the same time cause the owners are $$$ focused.

So it tends to be slow.

  4. Check out “Tailor Fukuoka” in Ginza. Bespoke suits with much better quality than the big chains, F-One and Big Vision. I had several suits made there and a sport coat. Too bad I hardly ever wear suits these days. http://www.tailor-fukuoka.com/
