Bought JR West tickets using a Revolut’s virtual card: can I receive them?

Hey guys!

I’ve bought some train tickets via JR West online reservation using a Revolut virtual card. Now I just realized I’ll need to put the credit card used to buy the tickets into the vending machine to get them.

Any idea if putting my actual physical Revolut card will work? Or will I have to sort it out with the station staff?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Honestly, I would cancel your order and rebook with the physical card number or just choose to pay in person.

The virtual card has a different number so the machine won’t accept your physical card as proof.

The manned ticket office also needs the card that was used to buy it – you can probably get by and explain it, but the ticket staff may be sticklers for rules.

  2. I’m assuming the Revolut virtual card has a different number than your physical Revolut card?

The JR West site has an [FAQ entry](https://faq.westjr.co.jp/en/faq_detail.html?id=10032) that addresses this:

    > Although a reserved ticket paid by a credit card expired prior to picking it up, the customer brought the renewed credit card to retrieve the tickets. → Please bring the original credit card that expired after it was booked, or change your reservation and pick it up with your renewed credit card.

    > Showing a different credit card to pick up a ticket other than the one used to book it. → Please use the credit card used at the time of booking.

Because you don’t “have” the original card with the original number (since it’s digital), it sounds like you should just rebook the reservation and that you won’t be able to pick up the tickets otherwise. I wouldn’t bank on a Japanese staff member “breaking the rules” for you.

  3. You need the physical card, unfortunately. I also did this and was not able to get my tickets with my virtual card after consulting the staff…and I didn’t bring the physical card to Japan.

    Lesson learnt
