Hi,
Im looking to become an ALT because I think it would be an interesting experience in my life, although im completely new to teaching. Im currently getting my TEFL now and am looking to apply to either Interac, Altia or JET and I was wondering for the people working in these companies. Do you actually create your own lesson plans or no? I have no idea how to create lessons which is why im wondering which companies expect you to do that and others which help give you the layout.
Thanks.

Do you have a degree? Doesn’t matter what it is, you just need one.
JET is a government program; Interac and Altia are (notoriously exploitive) commercial enterprises.
u/ElementalWorkshopII is correct, though: you need a university degree and at least 12 years of education in English.
I’m interested as well, and in a similar position, so I’m hoping you get your answer.
So can varry from school to school but often times you will be teaching more than one so there is a good chance you will need to. I have found that elementary schools will give the most responsibility to the ALT as so far as lessons and planning because at this point the curriculum is not yet graded. You will most likely have a book to base your lessons off of that may also have a digital portion for mixed teaching.
Above elementary the curriculum becomes much more strict and Japanese English teachers will become primary. That’s not to say they won’t ask your for things such as activities but it’s also possible you will only become a speaking robot.
I think so long as you save before coming, and dont expect to make a career out of it, it could be fun. Just dont get stuck here with an ALT gig as your only source of income
