  1. Sidenote, Shirakawa-go, besides being an important world heritage site, also served as inspiration for the village of Hinamizawa in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novels and anime.

    If you haven’t seen Higurashi yet, it’s a wonderfully cute and family-friendly series that definitely won’t leave you traumatised for years to come. No, seriously, I’m fine, thanks for asking.

  2. I’m going during fall this year! Beautiful photos. Any recommendations? Even just cool spots to take photos that you can remember and don’t mind sharing haha.

  3. I would love to go back one day. I went with a friend in the winter and it was absolutely empty except basically one restaurant in town, though it had the best BBQ beef and for some reason their Asahi on draft was so perfectly crisp. My friend and I rode rented bikes up the local hill, and the image of the empty streets and snow covered houses was so serene.

    How was it in the fall? From what I understand it’s now very touristy? Like beautiful but not culturally what you saw in Higurashi?
