Is there a demand for Digital Marketing or Data Analytics specialists in Japan?

I’m on the crossroad between choosing Digital Marketing or Data Analytics as a career, so due to being interested in both, I thought about all possible criteria I could think of to help me decide which way to go.

Thanks to my relationship and also personal interest, there is a very high probability that in the not too distant future (3-5 years) I will end up in East Asia, more specifically, Mainland China and/or Japan.

My question would be – Did any of you moved to Japan and landed a DM or DA job? How is the job market? Is there a demand for it?

Now, I know nothing is guaranteed when it comes to me going there, as well as job market situation might change drastically in a few upcoming years, however, I still want to know what to expect in case everything goes the way I think it will.

Thank you for any kind of useful information!

  2. >Digital Marketing

With *very* few exceptions marketing positions in Japan require not only high levels of Japanese fluency and an intimate familiarity with Japanese culture.

If you’re not already well on your way to those it’s fairly unlikely that you’ll gain enough familiarity with either, much less both, in 3-5 years.

Also: By “choosing Digital Marketing or Data Analytics as a career” does that mean you’re planning on going to school for one of those topics? Because a degree is a key requirement for a working visa in Japan.
