¥30000 support from the Government due to increasing electicity costs

I live in Tokyo and received a letter about receiving ¥30000 due to rising electricity costs.

I followed the instructions and sent a letter back containing the information they requested. This was more than a week ago and I have not heard anything or received any money.

Did anyone else receive this letter? If so, did you receive any response or just money into your account?

Just confused about how it works and if I need to do anything further.

  1. It’ll just magically appear in your account if everything is in order. It depends on the ward, but you can probably expect it to take 4-6 weeks.

  2. I read somewhere that taking payouts like this could be assessed if you eventually apply for PR. Kinda seen as government support. Does anyone know if this is true?

  3. It will appear randomly in your account if everything is in order, if not they’ll give you a call most likely

  4. What is this all about? I’ve never heard about a cash handout in Tokyo due to rising electricity prices

Edit: from what others have posted it seems to be only for low-income households (too low to pay residence tax) – in which case why are there so many people in this thread who seem to be eligible?

  5. wait I never heard about this.when is the expected letter to come to household? or is this for low-income only?

  6. I wish my city did this. Maybe I should check. Anyway, I think they’ll be slow with the money so like everyone said you’ll just have to wait for it to magically appear. Definitely a few weeks.

  7. when is the application deadline? i didnt realised it was for people who had low income in reiwa(5). i live in tochigi

  8. In Nagoya city, if you received one of these benefits last year then you’ll automatically get it this year if you still meet the conditions (basically not paying residence tax or have many dependents). There was a call for applications from households were the situation had changed since last year.

  9. I presume this will be your first time receiving financial assistance from the gov’t? It might take a while compared to those who have been receiving it for quite a while.

It will be sent to your bank account within a month.

  10. Was it Adachi-ku? Mine came within 3 weeks. After they deposit money, they will also send you a post card stating the date of the transfer.
In Adachi (as far as i know) that 3 man was not only for low income, but I belive for every household.

  11. Im in Meguro and got one. I applied online but then received a letter saying I did it wrong a couple weeks ago. I resent with the letter, haven’t heard back yet. I’m moving in a month, so I hope to get it by then..

  12. Had the same. Sent the original letter with my account details back to my city hall and a week letter they sent a letter advising that they had received my details and scheduled the payment with the payment date. The payment landed in my Japanese bank account on the scheduled date with no issues. But the original letter had advised 3-4 weeks before payment. How long did your original letter say?

  13. Got that letter and I definitely pay residence tax, have a kid though so maybe that’s in the calculation.

  14. I’m in Shinagawa ward and received one. However, because I only started living here (Japan) 5 months ago, I passed the criteria’s of “no previous resident tax” but I’m required to submit the form since I have no saved details.

My current income would be enough to require resident tax, so I’m not sure if I should submit this…
