Furnished a new house, any easy way to get rid of the boxes+plastic+foam?

I had to unbox quite a few items, so I have an entire room full of just boxes+plastic+foam. Is there any specific way I can get rid of these easily? One option is to cut up the boxes meticulously and take it out in small bursts every recycling day over a few weeks but that sounds like a lot of work and would still take up a lot of space until I can finally finish it.

Does anyone know of any Tokyo-based services I can call that can dispose of this kind of garbage for me?

I tried searching but struggled to find the right terminology.
Thanks!

  1. Some wards have specific rules for large quantities of garbage.

Check with your ward if there’re any limits for recyclables.

It takes a bit of work to sort them, but you don’t need to cut the cardboard into small pieces. Bundle the small ones with a string. Remove the tape and labels.

Put the polystyrene foam in large transparent plastic bags and bring everything out on the designated day for recyclables.

  2. For the cardboard:

Not sure if you have a car, but many supermarkets now have cardboard recycling bins (that give points). I always dump my cardboard there.

  3. Some home centers have big bins for recycling cardboard. I used to take truckloads there sometimes and drop it off. Cardboard is one of the very, very few materials that has actual value for recycling so it’s pretty easy to get rid of.

For the plastic & foam you have two options:

    1. You can break it up and throw it out with your regular garbage a bit at a time over a few weeks. Would break it up and bag it and then just put one bag out per week on plastic garbage day.

    2. Load it all up in your car and take it to your city/ward’s garbage incinerator. It’s ridiculously cheap to get rid of stuff this way. Depending on where you live, you may have to make an appointment in advance. Other places you can just show up during public hours. City incinerators will have their hours posted somewhere on the city website.
