International schools: IB training?

I’m not sure if this is the right forum to be asking this, but figured there might be some IS teachers here 🙂

I’m currently a teacher in Ontario (have a Masters and going into my third year of public school teaching) and looking to get a job in Tokyo next year. I know most legit int’l schools have IB curriculum.

IB training is pretty expensive, and I’m not sure if schools will provide it for teachers like me who aren’t super competitive, e.g., without a ton of experience. I’m wondering if it would be beneficial for me to get IB certified on my own although it’s like $3.5k and would take about a year.

Thoughts/experiences/insight would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  1. IB schools must have you do the first category in order to be employed there. Check out international teachers on Reddit as this question is frequently asked.
