Applying for PR off HSP points on a humanities visa

Hi all,

I have a question about applying for PR based off of having 80+ points for a year prior to application as someone working as a freelancer on a regular work visa.

I am currently freelancing on a 3 year humanities visa sponsored by one of my clients. I have 10 points for age, 20 for education, 10 points for 5 years of freelance experience in my field (if freelance experience actually counts?), and 15 points for passing N1. This year I am expecting to earn between 30-40 points worth of income. That income is from 業務委託 contracts and I’m not a 個人事業主 due to visa restrictions.

Between having a fresh three-year visa and making way more income than I’d normally make this year thanks to some good contracts, it seems like the stars have aligned in terms of meeting the special rule for applying for PR by having 80+ points for one year prior to application. However, is this even possible as a freelancer? I am only a translator, my Master’s degree is not related to my work and I don’t have any special qualifications so it feels like a long shot.

Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. The hardest part will be proving your years of experience. If you have contracts still from that far back it should be okay. Basically they need proof of employment for each job you are claiming towards your experience and they don’t count any time that was “part-time work” which is BS but it is what it is. I submitted proof of employment from the hospitals I worked at, but only worked part time for a period last year and they didn’t count it which left me a bit short of 5 years. Luckily I had enough points from the other areas. If you have all the proof of contracts that add up to full time work it shouldn’t be a problem even if it was freelance.
