Leaving for a holiday, what do I need?

Hey gang,I’m British my wife is American. My wife wants to go back to the US for the summer to visit family. She’s here on a spouse visa. We’re trying to find out if there’s any specific Visa or COVID stuff she needs before she travels (We heard that you need a special exit/ entry permit to leave Japan and then come back?).

Can anyone who’s done this before give us a bit of a hand, or at least tell us what we should be looking for? Because I’ve been trying to find something for half an hour and I’m just sitting staring at the ministry of foreign affairs page trying to decipher what “*Application for Visa for foreign nationals eligible for Phased Measures toward Resuming Cross-Border Travel*” means and if it’s even relevant to our situation!

We’re going to pop into the immigration office on Monday but I’d like to at least have a little bit of info to go with.

Cheers!

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who answered! We’re still gonna go to immigration to double-check some stuff but you’ve been really helpful in putting our minds at ease and giving us some keywords to work with and know what to expect!

  1. If it’s under a year for length of the trip then at the airport you just fill out a form and they staple the re-entry part inside the passport. You fill it out when you get back. It’s just your name and flight number and like two check boxes.

I was back to Canada recently via the us, I had my covid passport but I was never asked for any documentation related to covid.

  2. If only your wife is going back to the US all she needs to fill out is a re-entry permit at the airport it’s usually before you show your passport at immigration

  3. Just fill out a card that you get right before you go through immigration, after the security check. Make sure to check the box that you are coming back within one year

  4. How does she have a spousal visa? I thought spouses of foreigners only qualified for dependent visas.
