Question about sim-based wifi providers

My danchi apartment is old and according to the NTT tech who came out, physically incapable of accommodating a real internet connection. As a workaround, I have Softbank Air in my apartment. I know my it has a SIM in it so it’s using the cellular network to transport internet traffic.

I was in the local Aeon today, passed by the electronics store, and saw they were advertising WiMax+5G, NTT docomo home 5g, and Softbank Air next to each other. My question is, are each of these 3 providers using their own distinct cellular networks to transport internet traffic or are they all the same?

I rely on my internet connection to work-from-home. It’s important enough that I was thinking to invest in another one of these providers as a backup to my Softbank Air wifi, in case the connection is spotty when I can’t afford for it to be so. But, I thought, maybe they are just slapping their company logos on a common product and having two separate providers wouldn’t help me at all when one of them goes down.

  1. docomo home and softbank air are running on their own, completely separate LTE/5G networks. depending on your area one could be better than another.

wimax is also a separate data only network (not sure operated by who, uq mobile? so maybe au?) – anyway, if you are in the area it’s performance might be better than LTE.

  2. If your area has rakuten mobile coverage, that’s a good backup plan. Unlimited for cheap, they have the most modern own network too, but at the cost of sometimes spotty coverage in more rural locations
