15 Day Trip Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka with an eye for Halloween spooks! Feedback appreciated.

Planning a trip to Japan mid Oct for our anniversary. This will be our very first time visiting Japan and we are super excited and a bit overwhelmed. Our focus will be on Japanese horror/Halloween, cultural sites, food, Disney/Ghibli and to a lesser extent, anime/manga/shopping.

Any advice on spooky/Halloween things we can add (subculture bars, restaurants, events) or recommended/must see items we missed, food we should try, would be greatly appreciated. Also wanted a second opinion on whether or not our itinerary is too much, too little or what can be improved!

  1. Hey just curious what resources have you been looking at to find Halloween events, I’m going for Halloween aswell

  2. I think you’re going to have to prioritize the must do’s on each day because this itinerary seems aggressive. For example, from my research and from what I’ve been told, you can spend up to 1-2 hours at Nintendo in Shibuya just waiting in line to get in or purchase stuff. Same with Pokémon store.

And with the Ghibli museum I’ve learned (perhaps been misinformed) that the walk to/from the train station is about 20 minutes. So you’re losing 40-45 minutes of your day just walking to/from the station. Then you’ll have to breeze through the museum itself which can take 3ish hours to get through if you want to enjoy it. And that’s not taking into account any waits you might have to do at popular restaurants.

Just things to keep in mind! Might be good to have some of these as extra options if you end up getting through stuff quicker than you thought. But I’d hate for you to expect to do all this and then get delayed at your first stop and have the day thrown off.

  3. If you can fit it in, I would go stay a night at one of the Buddhist Temples in Koyasan. It has the largest Buddhist Shinto cemetery in the world. We walked the length of it to the temple at the end, about a mile and a half if I recall, at night and it was of the most spooky atmospheric things I’ve done for halloween. A dark cemetery on a path lined with stone lanterns.

We did this the day after Halloween in 2016 and the weather was just perfect also.

  4. spooky thing around tokyo off top of my head:

    tachikawa yokai fest

    fujiq highlands haunted house

    sanrio puroland halloween

    namjatown

diver city has some vr horror experiences

    harry potter studio tour

likely a hanayashiki event in asakusa

  5. Hi. Have you attempted to buy express passes at halloween horror nights by any chance? If yes, can you tell me how it worked for you? All my credit cards are not going through on the usj japan website.

  6. I dunno how anyone would have the stamina to go to Disney land that much and then still have the energy to do everything else. I don’t have much to add but I wish you luck, I suspect the coffee vending machines will become your best friend 😅

  7. Ahhh have a blast at USJ! We’re going for my birthday on October 28th and 29th and also staying at the park front hotel! I love Halloween, but not super scary stuff, so we’re going to bolt out of there and try to avoid our toddler seeing all of the zombie scarers. 🤣
