I’m looking at Oakhouse and they don’t charge key fee/shikikin/reikin and what not but take ¥50,000+ in “contract fees” which is basically a nonrefundable deposit. I suppose it’s better than the traditional shikikin/reikin system but not exactly cheap either. Are there any alternatives that don’t charge as much to get in?

**Are there good share houses in Tokyo that allow short term monthly rentals without high “contract fees”?**

Yes. I came for a one month holiday, and stayed at a normal share house. It had minimum one month contract (which was one of the shortest options, most wanted 3 or 6 months minimum). I can’t remember the price, but it was of course much cheaper than a month of hotels, but I may have factored in a ‘contract fee’ plus a month of rent as still being cheaper than a hotel. So it may have still had one.
I think I found them all on a website called tokyosharehouse
