Will be in Japan from Sept 4 – Jan 31st on exchange. In the first 2 weeks I’ll be travelling around the Osaka/Nara/Kyoto area, and after that I’ll be staying in Tokyo for the remainder. Can anyone recommend a gym chain to get an membership at? How feasible is it for foreigners to sign up for gym memberships?
More specifically:
\- I do mostly strength training, so I definitely want racks and free weights. I’ve heard that heavy DL’s will get you in trouble in Japan, so that’s also a concern for me. I could probably work around this though since I hear more serious gyms are expensive
\- Ideally, I’d buy a membership in Osaka with a chain that also has locations in Tokyo for when I head there. I want to get at least 2 sessions in during the first 2 weeks where I’m touring the Kansai area. Should I go for day passes or just get a membership?
\- Once the term starts in earnest, I like to go usually 4-5 times a week, so a public gym where you pay per visit is probably not the best like what is discussed here: [https://thefyslife.com/article/guide-to-gyms-working-out-in-japan/](https://thefyslife.com/article/guide-to-gyms-working-out-in-japan/)
\- also, any recommendations for protein powders / creatine when I’m there? I could order from myProtein, but it would take a while to get there and I haven’t finalized my living accommodations so idk about shipping.

Thanks.
