9 Day Honeymoon to Tokyo & Kyoto. Looking for nature in between! Day trip? Fuji? Hakone?

Hello! Combing through older posts on this sub is invaluable. Was hoping for some advice. ***TLDR at bottom***

Heading Sept 1st to September 10th.

My wife (fiancé at the time) and I were meeting in Japan in March of 2020. Everything shut down. Since then we’ve been married! We had to delay our honeymoon a year and now we’re going to make it!

My wife is set on just doing Tokyo and Kyoto. I want to squeeze in a bit of nature or countryside before returning to Tokyo at the end of our trip. We’re considering one night in Hakone between Kyoto and Tokyo for a private onsen room. She loves the beach. I once went to Aokigahara Forest and it was unreal.

***Would it be worth it to spend one night in a place like Hakone? Or with logistics and logic would we be better off taking a day trip from Kyoto or Tokyo to somewhere out there? Or is there ANOTHER nature spot in between?***

We Dont have any concrete reservations aside from lodging so we can do a nature trip any day really. So far we’ve got:

**Sat 2nd: Land in Tokyo**. Stay Dormy Inn Shibuya

**Sun 3rd: Tokyo Dormy Inn Shibuya** (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife)

**Mon 4th: Tokyo Dormy Inn Shibuya** (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife)

**Tues 5th: Kyoto Ace Hotel** Train day! (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife)

**Wed 6th: Kyoto Ace Hotel** (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife)

***Thurs 7th: Wild Card Day! Stay in Hakone for private onsen? Day trip outside of Kyoto after extending hotel? Is three days better in Kyoto!? Fuji? Go back to Tokyo and check into accommodations then day trip to Fuji?***

**Friday 8th: Tokyo** (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife) Or day trip!?

**Saturday 9th: Tokyo** (various food/sites/shopping/nightlife) Or final day trip?

**Sunday 10th: Fly home! 5:00pm flight**

Any and all recommendations would be appreciated.

***TLDR: Wife and I are doing 3 nights in Tokyo, then 2 nights in Kyoto, then 3 nights in Tokyo. Is it worth it to stick a night in Hakone or somewhere like that in between? Or are there amazing nature-centric day trips from either Kyoto or Tokyo?***

  2. It makes a good day trip to train there and do a loop using cable car, tram, train and ship. I am planning the same thing a day after you lol

  3. I’d recommend an overnight trip to kawaguchiko or a day trip to Kamakura. Both are easy to fry to via train from Tokyo.
