What isle are salmon flakes usually in at stores like H Mart or T&T? I’ve looked for them a few times with no luck, but perhaps I’m looking in the wrong isle or something!
My best guess is next to the bonito flakes but I’ve personally never seen this product. I shop at Ranch 99, Mitsuwa, Tokyo Central, H-Mart, Daiso and a few other ethnic markets.
Also, $12-18 for less than 4oz of salmon!?!? WTF are you buying that for?!?! go buy a can of salmon that’s around 12 oz. for $4 dollars. This is literally dried leftover fish sold for $48-72 Dollars a pound. That’s more expensive than sashimi at a $$$ restaurant. Why are you looking for this?!?!!
If you’re determined to buy these salmon flakes then just google it.
At the Mitsuwa near me, they’re with the canned fish.
At Hmart, they are next to the furikake. At Lotte, it’s dealer’s choice (they have them but each store is organized differently).
At my h Mart, they’re with the canned goods
If you can’t find em they’re really easy to make. I usually make these with salmon trimmings. Toss it em in a nonstick frying pan with some sake, mirin, cook for a bit till it flakes easily, toss in some sesame oil and soy sauce (to taste), continue cooking on low heat till it’s as dry as you want it, and done. I usually toss in some shichimi togarashi for some spice too.
If you are in WA, I have seen it at Uwajimaya in the freezer section that has frozen fish cakes/imitation crab, near the sashimi.
I know they can be ordered from Amazon for like $12.00
