I want to send some postcards internationally, but want to keep my address hidden for privacy reasons. Do I need a return address for this, as it’s being sent internationally?
Nobody is going to ask if your return address is Bob Dobbs living in Minato-ku.
You do not need a return address.
Make up a fake address if they insist. Joe Smith, 1-1 Azabu-juban.
Test it out. Drop an anonymous post card addressed to your mom or something. I’m pretty sure it will get delivered.
The only time when I absolutely definitely had to specify the return address was when we had to DHL or FedEx something to the US embassy. The clerk told us so in no uncertain words.
You don’t need a return address. When I travel around in Japan I send postcards to my friends and family in the USA. I never bother to write my return address. Come to think of it, there isn’t that much room.
Also, I just put the postcard in the mailbox. I’m sure if you ask the postal clerk though, they will say it’s required.
