    I have relatives who worked all their lives and saved a ton of cash only for them to give it to their kids (my uncle in law etc) so they can pay off inheritance tax (they bought land right near a station around 50 years ago and the station (well town) grew and grew so the land is worth a ton of money.

    Also they had a great documentary on NHK a few years back about this. I remember a husband doing the same and his wife begging him to let her go to Hawaii once in her life. They worked hard all and still not retired due to the husband wanting to save but the wife ended up moving out to live with the kids.
