The mods removed my last post because it was too “bare bones” – I had each day’s city, travel plans, and hotel stay listed. Frankly the amount of text people put in their posts here is annoyingly long so I thought I was saving everyone the bother of hearing each little stop and anyway having every minute planned out for a trip is not how everyone likes to travel. Some of us like to wander a bit instead of being travel nazis. But, to make the mods happy I’ll spell out more detail:
Day 1: Depart LAX
Day 2: Arrive NRT 530pm, bus to Tokyo (stay at Conrad Tokyo)
Day 3: Tokyo – bike tour to familiarize ourselves with the city, Shibuya crossing (Conrad Tokyo)
Day 4: Tokyo – get up early, Toyusu Fish Market, walk over to Tokyo Station, Ginza district, try out a few Ramen places (Conrad Tokyo)
Day 5: Tokyo – teamLabs Planet Tokyo morning, afternoon thrift store shopping (Conrad Tokyo)
Day 6: Train to Nagoya then Takayama – explore central Takayama (onsen w/bkfst & dinner incl)
Day 7: Takayama – find a day hike then go back to soak in onsen (onsen w/bkfst & dinner incl)
Day 8: Train to Kyoto – Gion district in evening (HP Kyoto)
Day 9: Kyoto – Bamboo forest and monkey park (HP Kyoto)
Day 10: Nara – Nara day trip, maybe join a tour (HP Kyoto)
Day 11: Kyoto – Kurama to Kibune hike (HP Kyoto)
Day 12: Train to Hiroshima, explore central Hiroshima, Peace Park, museum & castle (Hilton Hiroshima)
Day 13: Miyajima day trip, ferry over and day hike (Hilton Hiroshima)
Day 14: Train back up to Tokyo NRT with 5pm flight
Thoughts?

Do the Toyosu Fish Market and TeamLabs on the same day. They’re a 10 minute walk from each other.
You could go to Shirakawa-go from Takayama on day 7. Tourist bus leaves Takayama bus station at 8:30 sharp, back by 5.
Could also do a bike tour in Kyoto. We did one with cyclekyoto and it was fun.
We styled at the Sheraton in Hiroshima, very convenient since it is attached to the train station.
There is a group that does kayaking tours of Miyajima, we didn’t do it but it looked like fun.
I am curious what time of year you are traveling and whether you have any concerns about making your flight. Personally, I think I might try to put Hiroshima before Kyoto, despite the very long travel day, to make the trip to Tokyo on departure day a bit shorter. I have anxiety about being in a distant city the day of my flight.
