Getting recommendations

Hello.
So I’m currently working for a dispatch company for 5+ years and I am thinking of moving on to direct hire/university teaching at the end of the year since pay’s stagnant and professional growth…
I’m browsing job applications as early as now and I would like to know if it’s ethically/morally possible to ask my current Japanese colleagues for recommendation letters, or to even let them know about my future plans at the end of this year.
I’m afraid that by doing so, it will jeopardize my current contract and my professional relationships with the schools (even though technically the dispatch company is my “boss” – they always keep telling us not to tell our schools/BOE about future moving on plans).
I would like to ask for advice if it’s possible, thank you.

  1. Ask a trusted teacher. Heck if your school likes you, ask the vice principal and they’ll probably get a nice letter written by the principal for you

  2. When I was moving from dispatch ALT to university, I asked for recommendations from some of the JTEs I got along with. Especially if any of them were the head of the English department at the time, that could be useful.

  3. Absolutely ask principals, vice principals, and heads of English departments for reference letters.
