JLPT sign up site issue

Hey there,

I was trying to sign up to take the JLPT in Japan, but I am running into a bug on the website. I need to make an account but it won’t let me make a password for the site. Keeps saying I am doing it wrong. I’ve tried it on three different days with different devices and it still won’t work. I’m getting anxious because the sign up date is soon.

Is anyone else having this issue??

  1. This is Japan. You probably need to use Internet Explorer 6.0 (or earlier) for it to work.

(But seriously, try on a different device/browser)

  2. What does it say you’re doing wrong?

General rules for accessing japanese sites when you have problems:

If you’re using a funny browser, stop. Use chrome or maybe safari on iOS.

If you’re not in Japan, be in Japan. Don’t use a VPN.

If you have extension like adblockers, access without using those (like, private browsing mode for example)

Might need to disable dns based block lists if you have that.

In some extreme cases you might need to change your computer’s language to Japanese, (like you used to for the tax page) but you don’t need to do that for JLPT.

For JLPT specifically I’ve had no problem with chrome on windows in English with ublock and pi hole. So, it would help to copy and paste the error.

    Are you meeting this?

*Password must be within 8 to 16 letters in half-width alphabet or number; containing at least one upper case letter, lower case letter, and a number.*

Are you typing in romanji on a Japanese keyboard, or on an English keyboard? Did you try the other one?

I just typed in a password that meets that to test it, no issues. It only flagged the other fields (which I left blank). I am typing in English mode. Edit: I switched to Japanese and did it again in romanji, all good.

  4. Remember kids, if you need help with literally any error in existence it would be extremely helpful to tell us the exact error.

  5. It’s been awhile since I made an account, but I remember correctly (and they haven’t changed it), you don’t make the password. They send it to you in an email.

  6. Wait till you actually get in. I’m having flashbacks to signing up for the JLPT in Denver and being sent a receipt for the wrong level test and in Los Angeles.

  7. “Keeps saying I am doing it wrong.”

Ah, yes. The error: You are doing it wrong.

Can you not give us a copy/paste of the message you’re getting?
