Trip report 3.12 – 3.18 pt 2

Day 4 Nikko-

Got up very early and took the Shinkansen to Nikko. This was one of my favorite days. Upon arriving at Nikko we made our way to the tourist center, which reccomended us purchase a 2 day visitor pass to save us money on attractions/ the bus. They also gave us JR branded postcards of some local nikko attractions, which was sweet. We followed their suggested route and saw all the main attractions. After, we grabbed lunch at some random spot suggested by happy cow. We decided to end our time in nikko after we took the bus to Lake Chūzenji/ Kegon falls. It was calming there, but the town was almost deserted feeling. Kegon falls was nothing to write home about. We’ve been to Iceland, so this waterfall was nothing in comparison. We finished our day prior to our pre scheduled Shinkansen seats, so we just decided to head out on the next available with our JR pass. Ate at a falafel spot in Shibuya (Parco) prior to passing out at the hotel.

Day 5 Tokyo Disney Sea and World Baseball Classic-

We’re pretty big Disney people, so we knew we had to check out Tokyo Disney sea. I pre purchased tickets on their official website. It only took mastercard. The line was long, but we got in pretty quickly around park opening. I purchased fast passes for Journey to the Centre of the Earth. We were on that ride within 10 minutes. We also rode Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage, and a few others. Ate lunch in the park. Left around 3. We made our way back to the hotel to change and grab our tickets for the world baseball classic. I got tickets in advance through stub hub. They shipped them to our hotel. I communicated with the hotel staff prior through booking.com to make sure it was ok and as smooth as possible. The WBC was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We’re huge baseball fans and wanted to experience a Japanese baseball game. It was awesome seeing Ohtani and other players we recognize, as well as seeing well loved unknown to us Japanese players. We ate at Shinbu Sakiya Ramen in shibuya after the game and went to sleep pretty late.

Day 6 Hakone-

This day was dedicated to relaxation. We prebooked a private onsen a month prior via email with [hakone yuro](http://www.hakonenoyu.co.jp/en/). We took the romancecar to hakone to save time. Once there we decided to take the bus to lake Ashi since we had some free time prior to the onsen. It was confusing on how to get there. We decided to go to the tourist center and they told us what bus to take. We could’ve skipped this. It was expensive, kind of far, and we just walked along the lake and slightly on the old tokaido road prior to returning to downtown hakone. The lake was beautiful and it was peaceful. Once we returned there was a shuttle bus for the onsen. I loved this onsen and would definitely return. It was great as a westerner to have the onsen experience, but also to do so in a private room. Once leaving hakone, we ate at Great Lakes burger and then returned to our hotel.

Day 7- leave

We had some time to kill before going home, so we visited/ shopped on cat street and had good time donuts in the morning. We then walked through Shibuya and made our way back to Parco to eat at the restaurant we had day 1 again. Did some last minute shopping and made our way back to our hotel to grab our luggage that was stored while we were out. Because of our great experience with the Klook airport transfer before, I booked another for our return to the airport.

Sorry for such a long post/ any typos. Feel free to ask any questions. We hope to return next spring for another week. Want to spend more time in Tokyo and possibly a few days in osaka.
