Itinerary Check – 21 days – November/December – Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Osaka, Hiroshima, Himeji, Hakone

Hello everyone, me (24m) and my wife (24f) are going to Japan for our honeymoon from 16/11/2023 to 09/12/2023.

We have prepared a bit of our program by spending a lot of time here (and other places and we would like to have your opinion to know if everything is feasible, before we book hotels.

Will we be able to see some foliage during our trip ?

Any good love hotel recommandation ?

I haven’t done a lot of research for restaurants, we will take what we see or take a look a few days before. I’d like to try 1 or more Michelin restaurants there.

  1. I would move Don Quixote to the end of the trip.. you will end up buying stuff and why carry it around the country, when you are coming back to Tokyo before flying back home.

November 18 – do not underestimate the jet lag. And, you have a lot planned for this day.

November 19 – this is a really packed day. It is a Sunday and it will be busy everywhere. Not sure if you will be able to do all of it.

    November 22 – very packed.

November 23 – only one day in Kanazawa? What about the Samurai district. My suggestion, you need two days here.

November 26- you can do Fushimi inari early AM and then take the JR Nara line to Nara. This will give you a day back.

November 28 – not sure you need to go to Kobe for Kobe beef. You can get it anywhere. Unless you have other plans in Kobe.

November 30 – this will take you a few hours at the most. Again, unless you have other plans in Himeji.

    December 1 – a really packed day.

Other things in Tokyo you may want to look into – go to Kamakura, the Yokohama China Town, ‘piss alley’, and the Edo Museum (if it will be operational).

  2. Your Kanazawa trip looks rushed but is doable. Your arriving at ~11.30am and sunset is 4.40pm. The loop bus is good but has waiting times built in.

You should see autumn leaves in the Kanazawa garden and castle grounds. There will also be illumination shows at these two locations at night. I would consider leaving Tokyo the afternoon before for an extra night and time in Kanazawa, you have free time in Tokyo on your return.

You are in prime time to see autumn leaves in Kyoto but check the forecast closer to date. Drop by the Tourist Info Centre at Kyoto Station. They have English speakers and offer really good advice, used them for sakura viewing advice. Toji Temple is 10 ninutes from Kyoto Station and should have autumn illuminations of the pagoda, temples and autumn leaves.

Check out opening times. Some places may close one day a week, for the ones I am going to it seems a Monday or a Wednesday. Some places open late like mandarake which opens at noon so don’t put that first on your list.
