Long-term visa expiring, no real job

I do contracting work in Japan on a semi-regular basis, averaging around 150,000 a month but no contract. Some months 300,000 and some 50,000.

However, I have a full time remote job in the states (paid in USD to my American account).

After my ugly and nasty divorce a few years ago, I switched to a long term to help raise the kids.

But my 1 year visa is expiring in October, and on paper I am unemployed, doing odd jobs.

I haven’t been here ten years yet, and I will never marry another Japanese local again.

Does my relationship as father to my kids have any weight at all, or is this solely a if you’ve got no steady job, you’re out of Japan?

Anyone have some experience here?
