Hi All, I’m looking to buy a 60 series landcruiser (HJ60/HJ61 or FJ60/FJ61). I used to own an original UK one in Scotland, but it was already quite badly affected by chassis rust by the time I got it. Looking to get one while I’m here with the view of keeping it long term and taking it with me wherever I go. It’s fantastic that a lot of the old classics in Japan are not affected by salt roads and rust.
I’ve been googling around, but could use some advice. Wondering if anyone in the reddit has experience of buying classics in Japan.
I understand you need a kind of membership to go to the auctions, but thought I might be able to find someone who would take me along.
Pic of my old UK one for interest:

Hey, where are you located?
Buy something like that in Japan you have a few options, either from a dealer on guunet etc that already has something in stock, ordering something from auction through a dealer, (can’t say i recommend this since they are mostly interested in selling you whatever they can get their hands on, and cars like that can be few and far between in auction), or buying in auction through someone you know.
If you we’re to apply for a license to buy in auction yourself you would still have to wait minimum a year after receiving it anyway.
Even looking at ju.navi right now, not a lot of 60 series to speak of in the last 3 months.

I’m based in Fukuoka so yeah Here’s the national total for junavi over the last 3 months. Cheap, but its all 3 or R graded stuff so, yeah.
And buying from auction here generally means buyibg from the sheets, having someone actually take you inside to look at a specific truck is… Good service hahaha
For private sales it’s hard to come across in Japan in general, some stuff on yahoo auctions, and local facebook groups but, unless you know someone and all that… It’s japan, not europe after all.
