(Itinerary Check) Fast Trains and Faster Cars

I’m going to the Japanese Grand Prix this year and want some help with the itinerary. I asked for some advice previously [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/14m2eql/itinerary_check_tokyo_hiroshima_osaka_kyoto_nagoya/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1), but now I have flights booked I can refine my plans somewhat.

### Friday 15/09 – Tokyo
* Overnight flight from Manila, landing in Narita at 06:10.
* Skyliner to Uneo. Head to hostel to drop off bag.
* Breakfast in Asakusa. Explore the area.
* Lunch in Sumida. Go up the Skytree.
* Head back to the hostel to check in and have a quick nap.
* Tokyo National Museum and Uneo Park
* Dinner and drinks somewhere.

### Saturday 16/09 – Tokyo
* (Maybe Toyosu market for the tuna auction but not keen on a 5am start)
* Imperial Palace Gardens and National Museum of Modern Art
* Lunch at Tsukiji Market then head to TeamLab Planets
* Ginza, Godzilla and maybe the Tokyo Tower
* Back to hostel, shower and change.
* Dinner at Sushi Ichijo.

### Sunday 17/09 – Tokyo
* Breakfast in Shibuya, explore the area, see the crossing.
* Lunch in Harajuku. Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi Park.
* Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
* Dinner in Shinjuku. Golden Gai.

### Monday 18/09 – Tokyo / Hiroshima
* Early morning train to Hiroshima.
* Grab lunch, Mazda Museum tour.
* Check into hostel. Explore the city.

### Tuesday 19/09 – Hiroshima / Osaka
* Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
* Train to Himeji. Himeji Castle.
* Train to Osaka, check into hostel.
* Umeda Sky Building, Dotonbori.

### Wednesday 20/09 – Osaka / Kyoto
* Train to Kyoto, leave bags at the station.
* Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kiyomizu Temple, Ginkakuji
* Grab bags and go check in.
* Head to the Gion District

### Thursday 21/09 – Kyoto
* Arashiyama, Tenryuji Garden, Golden Pavilion, Ryoanji Temple.

### Friday 22/09 – Kyoto / Nagoya
* Train to Nagoya, Toyota Museum, Nagoya Castle, Atsuta Shrine

### Saturday 23/09 – Nagoya
* Train to Suzuka, Formula 1 Qualifying

### Sunday 24/09 – Nagoya
* Train to Suzuka, Formula 1 Race

### Monday 25/09 – Nagoya
* Departure from Nagoya at 14:00, probably hungover.

The only possible changes I think I could make make is to add a day in Hiroshima so I can go to Miyajima, which means I will arrive in Nagoya on Saturday? Am I leaving out anything burningly obvious here? I could also flip the order after Tokyo if I wanted to break up the Shinkansen trips into shorter stints?

  1. Just as a side note, sometimes if you travel by local or domestic flights they are reasonably priced and they take a lot less time obviously. But I decided to go that route versus Train or any overnight bus because I got to spend more time in the city. Although seeing the mountainside and rural area was also amazing.

  2. If you’re in it for the motorsports, the Toyota Kaikan Museum is kind of a letdown. I was there in May.

    The only race car present was their LMP victor car, and the rest of it was Prius/Hydrogen/BEV, safety system demos, how we build cars, and then a showroom of some current models. They did have all the GRs but it’s a long haul from Nagoya city center, and not the easiest thing to get to (multiple bus/train transfers/etc).. i’d skip it.

    The Automobile museum may be more up the alley, but I didn’t get to visit as the round trip to the Kaikan sucked up too much time 🙁

    I also relocated between Kyoto and Osaka.. if you’re looking for nightlife differences it may be worth it.. but i didn’t realize trains between Osaka and Kyoto were so frequent and short (30-40min) that it feels like it makes more sense to just hub in one and transit to the other for day trips.

    They’re probably booked out to wazoo for the Grand Prix weeks but Fun2Drive was amazing and worth every penny for the Hakone drive.
