I like Punk, but his body isn’t in the shape necessary for a G1, prior to the nagging injuries in his AEW run I would’ve been open to this, but now I’m not.

I don’t doubt that he’d bring attention to the G1 due to name value.
But I have a hard time imagining him being able to physically handle it. The G1 is gruelling and he’s been rather injury prone as of late.

Punk is more or less the reason why Collision exists, there’s no way the network guys would be cool with him being gone for a couple months.
He’d also be one of the biggest names in that G1, so he’d likely have to be slotted in a lot of main event matches. The guy can wrestle every week, but one TV match is not the same as 2-4 big G1 matches in a week. Like others have said, Father time is catching up with the guy.
I’d go out on a limb and assume it was just an idea he floated, nothing serious. Then wrestling journalists started inflating it into something bigger.
