Fever that does not go down.

Hello, i was out and about with my half pants yesterday during the typhoon going to work. 7 minutes of cycling and only my legs get wet. Change of clothes and since yesterday i have pains, fever all kinds of fun stuff.

This morning i went to the supermarket and grabbed 900mg paracetamol and took 1 tablet morning and one around 4pm that didn’t seem to help at all.

I had my friend deliver groceries to me, i was also gonna ask for a thermometer but it was 2k so I don’t have a way of checking my temp.

My worry is that, since the paracetamol doesn’t help, I’m worried of sleeping and waking up to a high fever. Should i call 911 and explain situation so that they can assist me? Or is there another number?

I’m a 25yo student living alone. I have been staying hydrated, loose clothes with ac on and with heat pads on my belly and forehead.

I was thinking of taking double 900mg paracetamol tablets before going to sleep but it would put me around 3600mg for 24hours. Although I don’t know the ingredients in japanese paracetamols, would that be safe?

I can explain my situation in japanese. Thanks! I have been in japan since april.

  1. If you’re not sure what you should do, call #7119 and check with them. They’ll tell you if you need an ambulance, if you should get a COVID check, etc.

  2. Double check that paracetamol, the dosages on the box are often the WHOLE DAY dose (eg. if the recommended dose is 2 tablets, 3 times a day = 900mg, well one tablet is actually only 150mg). I have no idea why they do medication dosing like this.

Fever on its own (generally) isn’t dangerous, and is a mechanism to try to kill off whatever you’re infected with. I would consider taking a COVID test first as it’s one of the most likely things that’s making you feel crummy.

  3. Do not self-medicate.

It can be more harmful than not taking anything.

    Seek medical diagnosis ASAP

  4. You need medical attention if you have a persistent fever. You probably have an underlying infection that needs treatment.

  5. The max dose for 24h is 3g, so 3600 would be too much, be careful.

You should get a covid test when you can (and a thermometer)
Call the number indicated below if you don’t feel well at night.

  6. Japanese medication is quite weak – not to mention a single paracetamol doesn’t do much anywhere..

Just drink lots of water and sweat it out? Standard.

  7. Thank you for all the comments. I was just worried because I thought I was taking 900mg of Paracetamol and it wasn’t keeping the fever down. Turns out, that 900 mg was daily dose when you use 3 times a day. So I was just taking 300mg per tablet which explains why it didn’t help with the fever. It’s actually hard to sleep “although my fever is going down.” so I might send in 2 tablets before sleeping “still within 3g of 24hr limit.”

And thank you for the number provided, I will call that if I can’t sleep or something else comes up in the future. Thank you all for the help and information!

  8. Only 1 day of fever should be fine. If it doesn’t go down at all or worsens in 2 more days then go to a hospital.

  9. >I had my friend deliver groceries to me, i was also gonna ask for a thermometer **but it was 2k** so I don’t have a way of checking my temp.

lol just buy a damn thermometer

I know it seems like a massive rip off (never bought one in the UK so not sure) but it’s a one-tip purchase, not a big deal.

Also it might be COVID so you probably want to go to somewhere with a 発熱外来 facility, or at least get a rapid test kit

  10. So as far as I can tell you had fevers for one day and you’re worried? I’ve had high fevers lasting for like 10 days when I’ve had the flu before. Just wait it out a bit. General consensus where I’m from is if you still feel like shit after a week, check with a doctor. 1 day is weak sauce

  11. Hm I don’t really get why you’re so obsessed with trying to medicate yourself unless you have no time at all to rest at home for a few days… it is お盆 atm, after all. If I had a fever I would just stay in bed for a few days until I felt better.

  12. 1. cycling / typhoon likely has nothing to do with your fever

    2. despite the cost, a thermometer is one of those things that you buy once and have available wherever you are. i still have the one i bought when i was in college. l keep it in my travel kit when i travel. it not just about knowing whether or not you have a fever, it’s regularly tracking it so you know if it’s getting worse or better.

    3. Unless your fever is extreme, you generally don’t want to take fever reducers, since the fever itself is raising your body temperature in order to fight whatever invasive thing is in your body. Instead, get plenty of rest, drink tons of fluids, and make sure you are replenishing electrolytes!

    4. Not sure why it hasn’t occurred to you that this could be covid?
