Visiting relative’s visa application processing time

A quick question for anyone with a relative who managed to successfully obtain a visa to visit you in Japan: how long did your relatives’ visas take to come through after they applied?

My Dad was hoping to visit later this year, but by far the best time for him to come (when I have a work break) is late September, which doesn’t give us a lot of leeway.

Moreover, due to Covid (and despite almost everything else in the UK having gone back to normal) the Japanese Embassy in the UK has a strict booking system for submitting applications – you can’t just turn up and get a ticket and wait like I did back when I applied for my visa. This calendar is fully booked for the next three weeks, with another day of slots released at midnight.

So the soonest my Dad could get an appointment (if he manages to book a slot) is in three weeks’ time, which would leave only two weeks before his planned departure date.

I have one friend whose mum was able to get her visa in just one week after applying, but that was in Australia and a couple of months ago, so my dad’s situation may be different.

So it would be good to get a sense of how quickly other people’s visitor visas came through, especially in the UK.

Thanks in advance!
