Tokyo/Shinjuku to Mt Fuji on bus — reliable?

I’m staying at an accommodation near Mt Fuji Station from Sunday (tomorrow) through Tuesday and looking for the most reliable and efficient way to get there from Tokyo/Shinjuku and back. According to Google Maps, I have the option to:

A) take a 2-hour bus from Tokyo Eki Tekko Biru or Busta Shinjuku straight to Mt Fuji station, OR

B) take the limited express train from Shinjuku to Otsuki then transfer to the Fujikyuko line (looks like I have to buy tickets in person at Otsuki for this? couldn’t find any online reservation options)

(\^ And the route back to Tokyo/Shinjuku would be flipped of course)

I don’t believe the Mt Fuji Excursion trains would be an option for me because they don’t run on Sundays and on the way back on Tuesday I need to be back in Tokyo by early afternoon, which does not work with their Mt Fuji to Tokyo timetable.

I haven’t dealt with highway? express? buses at all during the 2 weeks I’ve been here so I’d love some insight into how reliable and on schedule they are. I wouldn’t be surprised if buses run just as efficiently as trains in Japan, but I don’t want to merely assume. I’ve also come across sites like [https://www.highwaybus.com/](https://www.highwaybus.com/) to reserve bus seats, are those legit or is there another way to reserve buses ahead of time?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, and feel free to correct any misinformation I might be working with. Thanks in advance!

  1. I used the website you liste to buy our bus tickets and had no problem. I can’t seem to remember seeing a place to buy tickets in person where our bus station was in Shibuya. Believe everyone bought them online?

The bus departed on time so I think they don’t wait for late comers. We traveled during a weekday in the afternoon so there wasn’t any traffic and we arrived a few minutes to earlier than expected. The ride was pretty comfortable.
