Question to those living near Akabane/Kita-Akabane

I just moved to Tokyo and am looking for an apartment for myself. I found some interesting offers near Akabane and Kita-Akabane but I’m wondering how is it to live there. I want to know if the location is overall convenient and if it’s safe/quiet etc. I am only 20 years old and loved solo only for a year back in my country. Thank you so much!

  1. Akabane is great. Has a lot of stuff so you won’t always have to go downtown to enjoy your time. My only complaint is the excessive drunk people from Ichibangai. But it’s Japan, you’ll be safe

  2. East of the station (Akabane ichome and ni-chome) is a red light district and has a deservedly bad reputation for crime: I would avoid a place where you have to go through that area at night especially if you are a woman.

If you are near the Arakawa river I wouldn’t live on the ground floor as it is a flood zone.

  3. It’s a great and very convenient area. You have a lot of shops and restaurants, as well as very well connected train lines that will take you everywhere in Kanto and even all the way up to Tohoku.
I was talking with a friend and he mentioned the flooding issues in some area in Akabane but I cannot remember where so you will have to check that.

  4. I lived in Akabane for a month. I found it convenient with trains and everything else I needed. My friends enjoyed the Izakaya’s around the place, so it has a nightlife scene I guess.
I never felt uncomfortable there – day or night. But I only have one months experience of Akabane, so your experience may differ.
    Overall I liked it there.

  5. Akabane is pretty convenient. Hubby used to live in kita akabane and he said it was nice. Kita akabane has less train confections but akabane has more and it’s nice. I lived in kawaguchi and akabane is where I transfer all the time so for us it’s convenient.
