  4. The actual interesting point here might be one of international fame. For Eimi Fukada too. I doubt either of them would be so high up the list if it was Japan only. People like Hashimoto and Hirose are not so well known outside of Japan in comparison.

    But it perhaps is a bit shameful right now if the most known Japanese woman is a porn actress. Yes, she was originally an idol, but her fame is mainly from her porn career. For men, it seems Hitoshi Matsumoto is top at 9M. This will also be bolstered by international fans I think.

  11. With many Japanese celebrities lacking international reach due to deficites in capabilities to speak English, her profession’s non-dependancy on the spoken word certainly helps.

  16. I’m an American familiar with many Japanese celebrities, including both singers and adult video actresses, yet I have never heard of this person. Twitter followers doesn’t necessarily translate to real world fame, if you post nude/sexy photos of yourself that will often get you a follow.

    If I had to guess who Japan’s most internationally famous singer was, I’d say it was Utada Hikaru, she only has 3M+ followers. If I were to to say who is the Jenna Jameson of Japan, it would probably be Hitomi Tanaka, who only has 500K followers. Maybe nowadays it would be Shibuya Kaho, 800K followers, but she is now known as a Twitch streamer and speaks English so that certainly helps.

    I’m guessing for most people on this list the majority of their followers are either Japanese or followers from neighborimg Asian countries.

  18. IIRC she doesn’t work in the AV industry anymore, I think she just does gravure.

    But she’s also an idol who even had even produced her own kpop group. She has cute fashion and pictures- and she’s actually popular with women!

    What’s funny is that on my IG, all of the mutual followers I have are women or fashion accounts 😂 Miyabi Natsuyaki, Bijin Hyakka, etc…

  25. She is very popular among Chinese young men. I often visited a sports site (like Reddit) in China, and her name is often mentioned in casual conversations. I thought she is a TV/movie star.
