Trip Report: Vegetarian Edition (Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo)

Hi everybody,

I took a lot of recommendations from this sub for our Japan trip (Thanks to all of you!). So after my trip I want to share some experiences myself. I will skip the usual sightseeing and travel descriptions to directly focus on vegetarian/vegan food options.

One more hint: The opening hours on Google Maps were sometimes not accurate or up-to-date so be ready to change your planes from time to time 😊

Please add your recommendations and experiences in the comments!

**Fukuoka**

* **Sonu Sonu** ([https://goo.gl/maps/Cq3s8wvFFdwbMedT8](https://goo.gl/maps/Cq3s8wvFFdwbMedT8))
* Little restaurant, loved their Burger, great service
* **Soup Truck** ([https://goo.gl/maps/nUpupabfSef8pECY8](https://goo.gl/maps/nUpupabfSef8pECY8))
* A truck with changing soups and salads for take-away

**Hiroshima**

* **Parco della Pace** ([https://goo.gl/maps/XeS3t9WBq14kSHWe7](https://goo.gl/maps/XeS3t9WBq14kSHWe7))
* Italian restaurant with great pizza. At the end you can mark your hometown in a map – very impressive from where all over the world people came to this restaurant so far.
* **Hiroshima Okonomiyaki: ROKU** ([https://goo.gl/maps/85xH2JM2CTsyyYxr5](https://goo.gl/maps/85xH2JM2CTsyyYxr5))
* The Roku stall is on the 4th floor of the Okonomimura (when leaving the elevator move to the right till the end to reach Roku).
* The vegetarian and vegan option are not displayed on the menu but they are happy to offer upon request.
* **Taiko Udon Nakamachi Shop** ([https://goo.gl/maps/eQGaaeArNcVLWxfJ6](https://goo.gl/maps/eQGaaeArNcVLWxfJ6))
* Best Udon we had in Japan during our trip.
* Try the Eggplant with Miso and Cheese!
* **Croissant Marche** ([https://goo.gl/maps/oYgB1MY5bFc1GcCC8](https://goo.gl/maps/oYgB1MY5bFc1GcCC8))
* Offers vegan and fresh bento boxes for take away and you next trip with the shinkansen 😊

**Osaka**

* **OKO – Fun Okonomiyaki Bar** ([https://goo.gl/maps/56cr3UWKnNCpJtY46](https://goo.gl/maps/56cr3UWKnNCpJtY46))
* This whole restaurant is run by a single woman and just an awesome place. Great to visit after you had Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima (or the other way round) to experience the slight differences between the versions of these citys.
* **Curry Yakumido** ([https://goo.gl/maps/mCFWJ6GpPAth8weW6](https://goo.gl/maps/mCFWJ6GpPAth8weW6))
* Japanese curry with vegan and non-vegan options
* **Merry momo** ([https://goo.gl/maps/oY1cnNPuLUPaefEi9](https://goo.gl/maps/oY1cnNPuLUPaefEi9))
* They offer vegetarian sets, so you can taste a wide variety of Japanese food in just one meal. They also sell some of the ingredients right in the restaurant.
* **Human Beings Everybody Noodles** ([https://goo.gl/maps/c9fhfzGtkpaVURiG6](https://goo.gl/maps/c9fhfzGtkpaVURiG6))
* Best ramen during our trip! They offer vegetarian option that tastes great!
* Just ask the staff for the options the are happy to help.

**Kyoto**

* **Breakfast Udon** ([https://goo.gl/maps/ppsPxSxwWfwUPpuv6](https://goo.gl/maps/ppsPxSxwWfwUPpuv6)) (cash only)
* I already miss udon for breakfast in my home country. They offer great vegan option to start your day! Tokyo

**Tokyo**

* **Soranoiro NIPPON** (Ramen Street at Tokyo Station, [https://goo.gl/maps/zaBjH73bEzsGZqHB9](https://goo.gl/maps/zaBjH73bEzsGZqHB9))
* Good (and only?) vegetarian option at ramen street in the Tokyo station. Great location for a short stop!

  1. Cheers for the recommendations mate. I’ve saved them all on my maps app, going to come in really handy this November. I alway felt getting good vegi food in Japan was a nightmare. Manly because i was alway the only vegi/vegan in the group lol

  2. This is great, ty!!! Did you have any vegetarian sushi by any chance? I’m going to Tokyo and Kyoto in October and would love to try some

  3. Thanks for these recommendations! Currently on vacation in Japan and struggling to find good vegetarian food in places. Headed to Hiroshima and Osaka next, so the timing of your post is perfect for me!

  4. Thank you for the recommendation. I hope you had a great time in Japan.

    I would also recommend the following in Tokyo:

    -Parlor 8aish (Omotesando)

    -Itosho (Azabu Juban)

    -Daigo (Onarimon)

    -Toufuya Ukai (Akabanebashi)

    -T’s Tantan (Tokyo Station)

    -ReserveOnly Veganic Monkey Magic (Asakusa)
    -Marugoto Vegan (Asakusa)

    -Ain Soph (several locations)

    -Gopinatha (Nakano)

    -Meu Nota (Koenji)

    -Raccoon (Nishi-Ogikubo)

    -Organic Cafe (Nishi-Ogikubo)

    -Crayon House (Kichijoji)

    -Cafe Slow (Kokubunji)

  5. To add in Tokyo:

    Komeda is in Ginza -> Great for vegan fast food. Can be a little expensive but it’s worth it.

    Vegan bistro jangara in Harajuku -> vegan ramen available, really spicy. A must.

    Kyushu jangara in Akihabara -> vegan ramen available, really good overall.

    To add in Kyoto (a veggie paradise in my opinion):

    Gion soy milk ramen Uno Yokiko: delicious ramen quite different from other places.

    Veg out: plant base options. Rrally healthy options

    Kyoto engine ramen: really cool atmosphere, vegan options but also long wait.

    Osaka:

    Falafel sababa: cool owner from Australia, offering tasty falafel. Less than 10 spots available.

  6. I love this post. Blessings to all the veggies out there for this. Now I need to figure out how to not forget this post exists so next time I go I can reference this 😂

  7. Vegetarian here too. Love Sonu Sonu, I knew it would be on there when I saw Fukuoka, and I was right!

    Did you see the huge Zen temple on the way there?

  8. bless everyone on this post – was just about to ask for ways to find vegetarian options in tokyo/osaka (since my mom is vegetarian) thank you so much!!!
