Hello just wanna ask for some advice

I’m 21 years old and it will be almost 2 years since I moved here in Japan. It’s really not by a choice. I just have a japanese passport and some personal reason that I need to move to Japan. When I moved here, I only finished until 12th grade.

At first, I really only know basic japanese words, just greetings. Attended japanese class but didn’t continue bc I need to look for a job to survive. At least I found a job that will accept me then. But i’m getting tired, just because I know that this is not what I want.

I still wanted to at least have a diploma, or just to have something I can carry that will make myself proud I guess? But I don’t have any savings for that. Also, I don’t really know what I wanted to study. Although I know english, it’s just my second language and I won’t consider my english skill as native (and they require to at least have a diploma). So, I can’t get a job as an English teacher (because this job doesn’t really require a person to be good in japanese). So i’m stuck with jobs that have a minimum wage.

I’m dreaming or planning that if ever I have enough money, to at least attend a vocational school (bc it’s just 2 years and I can surely have a job bc most japanese only attends vocational schools too) but I need to really study japanese in order to attend one? So with that, I will start to study nihongo again from the start 🙂

I still don’t know what will happen to my life while living here in Japan without a direction haha! I don’t enjoy it but also not really hate it

  1. You have a Japanese passport so your job options aren’t limited by your visa. I would consider finding a blue collar job to learn a trade skill on the job, while taking evening language class.

  2. If you’re willing/wanting to work in the trades, like welding, auto tech, etc., lots of places will hire and train, regardless of language ability.

  3. Have you been to Hello Work? they might be a good place to start, they can help you with advice about training as well as work.

  4. I think since you still have no direction, what you is need to figure out what you want to learn first and then save money for the education required. Say, vocational school: what kind? What are you interested in, what kind of job you enjoy or can see yourself enjoying? If you have difficulty imagining it, you can approach it the other way around: what jobs do you do NOT want to do? Then count the opposite options and start to consider what your top options are.
