Hi all – Going to Hokkaido in early September and wanted to get your opinion on whether the below itinerary is doable/ideal/impractical.
Is the Sapporo-Shakotan-Toyako too rushed? Should I spend the night in Otaru instead of a day trip? And am I spending too much time in Furano?
Thanks for your thoughts!
**Day 1 – Arrive Chitose**
Flight arrives into Chitose at 9pm, head into Sapporo and check into the hotel and call it a night.
**Day 2 – Sapporo**
Odori Park, Sapporo Clock Tower, Sapporo Beer Museum, Mt. Moiwa
**Day 3 – Otaru Day Trip**
Take the train from Sapporo to Otaru for a day trip. Return in the evening.
**Day 4 – Sapporo to Cape Kamui/Shakotan to Lake Toya**
Pick up rental car in the morning, and drive Cape Kamui/Shakotan. Spend a few hours there before heading down to Lake Toya for the night to catch the fireworks.
**Day 5 – Lake Toya to Noboribetsu**
Check out of Lake Toya hotel in the morning and drive to Noboribetsu. Enjoy the onsen and Hell Valley. Stay in Noboribetsu for the night.
**Day 6 – Noboribetsu to Furano**
Check out of Noboribetsu hotel, have lunch, then drive 3 hours to Furano.
Check into the Furano hotel. Potentially check out Farm Tomita and Shikisai no Oka if not too tired.
**Day 7 – Furano/Biei/Asahihawa**
Visit the Biei Blue Pond, Asahihawa, Asahikawa Zoo. Return to Furano for the night.
**Day 8 – Furano to Sapporo**
Drive back to Sapporo and return the rental car. Hang around town the rest of the day and have a nice dinner.
**Day 9 – Leave Chitose**
Check out of hotel and head to Chitose airport. Flight is at noon.
