Westgate corporation – a good company?

1. Why don’t you first take a look at their website? If you still can’t find the answer then DM me.

2. They are the total opposite of a top rated company.

3. 1) you’re only paid 7-9 months out of the year depending on the contract (accredited or extracurricular) which can SUCKKKKK

   2) you’re expected to plan all of your lessons. Some schools might share lessons and they have a planner to suggest what to do, but that’s about it.

   3) they assign you your paid holidays which is based on the university calendar

   4) you technically work “5.5 hours” and are paid that at a rate of 2400¥, but you have to be at the school for 8 hours and aren’t allowed to leave even for lunch. So that means, even if you are finished with classes for the day and you need to go to the doctor or something, they can just remove X amount of pay from that day, even if you are done. Basically, even though it says you make 2400 an hour, it’s more like 1500.

   5) A student could technically retaliate if they’re upset about a grade an accuse teachers of misconduct like hitting them or abuse. As Westgate is a contracted position, it makes it extremely hard today defend one’s self and they might just either remove you or force you to relocate. I’ve heard stories of them pulling teachers mid lesson for this lol.

   6) Westgate housing is a small LeoPalace for 81,000¥ which you can find those same apartments listed at 50,000¥. Furthermore, they are changing their program and will make company accommodation a SHAREHOUSE that is still 81,000 yen, which is a massive amount of wage theft.

   7) there’s little to no growth. You start out at 2,300 hr pay and get to 50¥ increases for two semesters and then that’s it. There are senior instructor positions but they are almost always in-house.

   It can definitely help you get good experience to find better jobs and it does beat out some of the other black company teacher mills, but this company is designed on mass hiring every semester and cares little about its teachers.

4. Fuck Westgate. Initiating a race to the bottom in one of the last areas English teaching professionals can make a decent living.

6. Lol, I just got an email from them, because I applied to them not too long ago.

   They keep insisting I move into their company housing, telling me that if I don’t, I’ll have to handle everything on my own at City Hall, including pension and health insurance.

   I live in a 2DK mansion in the Tokyo suburbs that is leaps and Bounds better than what they’re offering.
