  1. how can i ever trust a company again? i get that every job comes with office politics and bullshit, but i mean i wanna avoid companies that promise a lot of basic but *very important* shit that severely impacts the employee’s life negatively when they reneg. everyone jumps on the lawyer up bandwagon but that’s easier said than done, plus i just wanna decent fuckin job that pays the bills and doesn’t break laws that can put my livelihood in jeopardy! jfc i’ll break my back for just an ounce of respect.

  2. How does one get considered for cloud roles after help desk? Certs don’t seem to work because recruiters brush over them.

  3. What do you drink which is not alcoholic or fizzy, nor overpriced like fruit juice?

I’m not a big fan of all Japanese teas, such as ocha, kocha or green tea.

    Ty!

  4. I want to buy and sell a few things on Yahoo auctions, mostly buy. I dont have a bank account yet, can I still use paypay or just use conbini cash payments?

  5. What should you do if you get the exact same offer for the same client from two different recruiting companies? Because these recruiters never tell you the company name I never found out until the end, and one of them offered me a much better offer—not sure if I should be happy or scared the job will vaporize

  6. If I’m sending bits and bobs back to the Uk via japan post — bits and bobs being stuff like letters, photos, etc — how do I write that on the customs form? Obviously I don’t have to count every single letter and photo I am sending, but is there an overall term I can use to describe them?

(Note: they’ll be mixed in with other things like clothes etc)

  7. Anyone got recommendations on cheapest utilities suppliers in Kansai? Water, gas and electricity?

  8. Do you genuinely like your job or is it just a tolerable means of getting money?

Trying to get a realistic perspective on adult life lol

  9. Does anyone know where to get a dirt cheap pair of formal shoes? You know, like those usually worn by salarymen.

I know that the best decision should be “Don’t be a cheapskate, it’s an investment and get a good and lasting one”, but currently I just need one for an upcoming event and I just needed them for the sake of wearing one (as in dresscode requirements).

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Also, has anyone else managed to link their Japanese bank account to a PayPal account? I get my salary paid via PayPal and I can’t withdraw it via a bank account. I’ve tried three times and I keep getting “ACH Withdrawal Denied — Invalid Bank Account Information” even though the bank account information I write is identical to what’s on my bank book. Getting really frustrated about it!

  11. Does anyone have experience working for the Tokyo American Club, specifically in the kitchen? How is the working environment there?

  12. Are culture fit interviews difficult? I’ve already done several interviews AND a test to show I’m capable, but now I’m doing a culture fit one and looking at questions online it seems pretty straightforward… almost as if it’s not even necessary. What’s everyone’s experience?

  13. Can you still update residence card information through the SMBC app?

Last time I renewed I went to a branch and they walked me through installing the app and updating it through the app, but their website now says I should send them a letter or go into a branch if I want to update my residence card information, and I can’t find it in the app. I might be looking in the wrong place, though.

  14. Where can I find volunteer service activities? Every few weekends I find myself without any plans and thought it would be nice to volunteer every once in a while. I speak both Japanese with a decent working proficiency, so language barrier doesn’t matter much.

    Edit: Living in Tokyo.

  15. I recently interviewed with an agency for a gig that seems right up my alley at a reputable company. The pay isn’t great, but it’d be fine for a while. Same would go, as far as I surmise, for the working conditions.

The catch is this: If I get the gig and the company wants me working for them, I won’t be hired by the company itself. Rather, I’ll be temp staff hired by the agency and contracted out to the company. The agency would pay my wage, provide my insurance and be responsible for any leave I want to take (after a 6 month probation).

Does anyone have experience with this sort of arrangement in Japan?

  16. Where should I go in Tokyo to shop for cool clothes for a guy? I know this is a vague request but I’m clueless on this kind of stuff. Nothing super expensive (ex. more than 1 man for one item of clothing)

Not Uniqlo, Uniqlo is for functional clothing, I’m looking for cool/fashionable.
