Osaka – 1 Day Itinerary Check (more like help)

I’m not sure that I’ve seen a post like this so I hope it’s not an issue. I am dyslexic so not only is reading really hard for me, I am challenged with directions. I have to sit and think about right and left, N, S, E, W mean almost nothing to my brain when I am out in the world.

That’s a setup for this… I am going to Japan in the fall and spending 12 nights there. I plan to not over-plan, but one day where I need to have a good idea of what I’m doing (with three travelers) is Osaka. I determined there wasn’t quite enough that interested me to stay in Osaka so we are staying 4 nights in Kyoto which will serve as the home base for Osaka.

There are only 4 things I really want to do. My issue is the order I should do them in.

Looking at a map, even using Navitime, I can’t come up with a plan that makes sense. Here’s what I am trying to do:

**Universal Studios Japan:** This is stop 1 and we plan to be there sometime between 7 and 8am. We only really care about Mario World but I am saying this will be 5 hours of the day. It could be even less.

Now I get lost.

The other three things are (sunset estimated for 5:35 pm):

1. teamLab’s Botanical Gardens (45 minutes, an hour?) – night time
2. Dontonbori – Night time
3. Tsutenkaku Observation tower

What order should I do these things? And is there anything else would recommend between these spots the might be worth a stop? Hell, is this even realistic?

Thanks in advance, kind Redditors.

  1. First of all, I would say this is too much for one day, especially if you’ve never been to Osaka before. I would recommend only doing 2 out of the 4 things you’ve listed, or staying one night in Osaka and making it two days, as the things you’ve picked seem pretty enjoyable.

Check what the opening hours of Universal studios are on the day you plan to visit, some days it doesn’t open until 9am. (I am not sure if you need to get there before it opens or not.

Tsutenkaku is on the way to team labs, or you could stop there on the way back. I really like the Shinsekai area of Osaka, great for tourists and a lot less crowded than Dotonburi. Spa world is also in this part of Osaka if you feel like a relaxing soak
