Japan Written Drivers Test

I am about to take the 95 questions written exam but I keep failing the practice partly because of the trick questions and bad English translation ..any tips? Did you pass your exam the first time?

I already passed the driving exam.. so I just need to pass the written test to be able to finally get my license.

  1. I had to take mine like 4 times before I passed because the translation was awful.

On the upside, I will never forget the time I spent laughing at some of the questions, such as “you pass by some pedestrians as you drive over a puddle, and you splash them with some water. True or false?”

  2. Memorize the key words they use. There will be a lot of question regarding traffic signs, moped rules and hand signals. Good luck!!

  3. I passed the written exam. The way to do it is to take the practice exam as many times as you need to until you consistently get over 95. If you’re in a drivers school you can just go one day and take the practice exam like 6 times in a row. There is no reason not to do this. You’ll lose half a day at the police center so might as well pass.

You do this enough and you’ll see all permutations. I… I also think that the written exam is easier than the practice ones? Like less trick questions. But also when I took the written exam like 40% of people in the room with me failed

  4. Honestly, you just need to keep taking the tests. Also, do you know Japanese? If you can get a sense of how questions are asked in Japanese, it’ll be easy to spot the supposed ‘bad English translation’ and know what the intention behind the question is.

I recently passed the test first and there was maybe one question that I thought was hard to understand.

  5. That shit was so bad I just upped my Japanese level and took it in that. Which is still poorly worded

  6. I got 仮免 in Japanese but passed the final exam using their wonky-ass fucked up English test. Took me three tries. Once in Japanese, fail; once in English, fail; actually study and try again in English and pass.

  7. I really hate the questions where it says “you slowed down and kept safe distance” but then the answer is false because you only need to keep safe distance 😒😒

Oh and there’s also a question that asks if you can park a car in front of your garage and the answer is false because you need to park x meters away so you don’t block your own garage

Appreciate all the response! Hopefully I’ll pass as I don’t want to go back to the license center again.. they were also so rude to me – lady at the reception even threw my application back at me because my residence certificate didn’t have my nationality.. she was like “ima, dame! muri muri!”

  8. took me 4 times…I still remember “you cut the handle into the curb” curb or curve? i still don’t know the correct answer lol

  9. There are websites with test questions and you can take practice tests. Just keep doing those until you’ve memorized almost every question.

  10. I took the practical and written tests in Japanese last year and passed first time. Not a flex, because I’ll give total credit to the mock test books that are on sale in most stores. The same questions come up each time with only slight changes, even with my awful Japanese ability the ‘traps’ were easy to spot. My advice would be to buy one, and drill those to the point that you’ll recognize the patterns even with the abysmal translations. If you’ve got N3 and above, it’ll really help.
